Black Screen On Wakeup

20-c020
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Whenever my computer wakes from sleep, everything but the screen comes on, it stays "Black." How can I get it to come on normally. It seems to have started when the bios updated a few weeks ago.

Black Screen On Wakeup

Hey there! @Davelou-2

Try updating the BIOS and graphics drivers on the PC to the latest version.

Update the BIOS using this link. Click Here

Try performing a hard reset on the PC.

Completely resetting the computer can resolve many issues that cause a blank screen. Follow these steps to perform a hard reset:

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards.

  3. Disconnect the AC power adapter.

  4. Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.

  5. Reconnect the AC power adapter.

  6. Turn on the computer.

    If the blank screen issue is resolved, you are done.

Restore the BIOS settings to default and check if it helps.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Also, I would suggest you enable Fast Start-Up on the system and check if it helps. To do this, follow the steps below.
1. Open Control Panel and go to Power Options.
2. Click/tap on the Choose what the power buttons do link on the left side.
3. Click/tap on the Change settings that are currently unavailable link at the top.
4. If prompted by UAC, then click/tap on Yes.
5. Ensure that Turn on Fast Startup is checked.
6. Restart the computer.

Lastly, try running a system diagnostics test and check if the hardware components on the PC are functioning correctly.

Black Screen On Wakeup

Hi A4Apollo,

I thought I'd follow up about this delemma and what steps I've taken so far. I did just about everything you suggested in your reply. So far, what I see is, when the diagnostics was testing the hard drive, it hung up at 90% and quit, went on to the next step. I was doing the quick tests. All of the other tests came up as Passed.

     There is something I've been noticing, when I use Google Chrome, there is a "Temporary Error," and there is also what looks like a black screen temporarily, momentarily showing up for the last week or so. On Chrome. So far, inconclusive.

     I'm getting a new printer today!

Black Screen On Wakeup

@Davelou-2,

In this scenario, I would suggest next option would be to perform a system reset - HP PCs - Resetting Your Computer (Windows 10)

Let me know the outcome!

Cheers 🙂

Black Screen On Wakeup

Hello Jeet_singh,

I thought of that, and I've already done that, with a new installation of windows. I kept my files, don't know what difference that would make. Thank you,

@Davelou-2

@Davelou-2

Thanks for writing back to us.

It sounds like few of the operating system files might be corrupted due to which you are receiving this error.

Try performing a cloud recovery on the PC and check if it helps.

Refer this article to know more information about performing a cloud recovery. Click Here

Hope this helps!

Take Care!
