HP all in One Pavilion
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Every now and again (after a few days or a couple of weeks!) all of a sudden I get a black horizontal bar (say 5 inches long and half inch wide) at the left edge of the screen. It does not seem to correspond with any program change, eg e-mail to e-mail or  to Internet access or web page to web page. I bought this PC at Best Buy in January 2020 and this problem has been there from shortly after purchase but with the lockdown I have not been able to contact HP (their virtual agent could not help nor did diagnostics find anything wrong!) or Best Buy yet.

Can you help?

Eugene

@bannon1 Here's what you need to do, to identify the issue and resolve it accordingly:

  • Check if it works fine on an alternate monitor, if not available, check the BIOS screen to identify if it's either a hardware or a software issue:
    • If it works fine on the alternate monitor or the BIOS (Accessed while tapping F10 during a restart for HP computers) it's a software issue & I suggest creating a new user account to check if that works better, for starters or contact the manufacturer or the desktop for support,
    • However, if it doesn't work within the BIOS or the other monitor either, I'm afraid it's a hardware malfunction.

P.S: Welcome to HP Community 😉
