Hi @Luisito1212

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can understand how unsettling it feels when your desktop suddenly drops to a black screen with only a cursor, especially after you’ve already tried using it normally. You’ve done well to observe the pattern and describe it clearly.

Let’s go step by step to bring the system back to a stable state.

Check Safe Mode access

  • Restart the computer and press F11 or hold Shift while selecting Restart.
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  • Select Safe Mode with Networking.
  • If Safe Mode loads, this confirms the issue is related to drivers or startup programs.

Update display drivers

  • In Safe Mode, press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Display adapters.
  • Right‑click your graphics card and choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
  • Restart the computer normally.

Disable fast startup

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
  • Select Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
  • Save changes and restart.

Run System File Checker

  • In Safe Mode, press Windows + R, type cmd, and press Enter.
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  • Allow the scan to complete and repair any corrupted system files.

Check startup apps

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Go to the Startup tab.
  • Disable unnecessary apps that may conflict during login.
  • Restart and test.

Update BIOS and chipset drivers

Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Go to Support > Troubleshooting > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Run the scan to automatically detect and repair issues affecting startup and display.

You’ve already shown patience by describing the issue clearly. With these steps, especially updating display drivers and disabling fast startup, you should be able to reduce or eliminate the black screen with cursor problem.
