Hi @Langelihle78,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 15 laptop shows a black screen and won't start, but you hear one beep and then the fan stops, this might indicate a hardware issue. Here's a troubleshooting guide.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the laptop from power.
- Remove the battery (if it's removable).
- Press and hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and power cable.
- Try turning the laptop back on.
Check the Power Source:
- Ensure the power adapter is working by trying a different outlet or using another compatible adapter.
- Confirm that the charging port is clean and not damaged.
Test the RAM:
- If possible, open the back of the laptop to access the RAM modules.
- Remove and reseat the RAM sticks or try booting with only one stick if you have multiple.
Perform a BIOS Reset:
- Turn the laptop off.
- Hold the Windows + B keys and then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
- Release the Power button while still holding the Windows + B keys until the BIOS recovery screen appears (if possible).
Check for Loose Connections:
- Inspect the internal connections if you're comfortable opening the laptop.
- Ensure the RAM, hard drive/SSD, and other components are securely connected.
Examine the Beep Code:
- The beep you hear may be part of an error code. In some cases, one beep can indicate a minor issue or a sign of motherboard or display problems.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
