Hi @ksbcwhndr

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for flagging that—and I’m really sorry your HP V20 HD+ Monitor is showing a black shade near the taskbar. That kind of shadowing can be distracting, especially when everything else looks fine.

Let’s walk through a few things that might help clear it up:

🧩 What Might Be Causing the Black Shade

Refresh Rate Mismatch
Some users have reported similar issues when switching between refresh rates. At 144Hz, the black bar may cover the taskbar, but switching to 60Hz often resolves it.

Backlight Bleed or Panel Shadowing
If the shadow is persistent and doesn’t change with settings, it could be a hardware issue like uneven backlighting or panel pressure.

Display Scaling or Resolution Conflict
If the resolution isn’t set to the monitor’s native 1600 × 900, it may cause visual artifacts near the edges.

🛠️ Steps to Try

Check and Adjust Refresh Rate

  • Go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced Display Settings.
  • Set the refresh rate to 60Hz, which is optimal for the HP V20 HD+.

Confirm Native Resolution

  • Make sure your display is set to 1600 × 900.
  • Right-click on the desktop > Display settings > Display resolution.

Run Monitor Self-Test

  • Disconnect the video cable (HDMI or VGA).
  • Power on the monitor—if the black shade still appears during the self-test screen, it’s likely a hardware issue.

Try a Different Cable or Port

  • Swap out the HDMI or VGA cable and try a different port on your PC.
  • A faulty cable can sometimes cause display anomalies.

Check for Firmware Updates

Let’s get that display looking crisp again! 💻
