Hi @Ashley239,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To troubleshoot your HP laptop camera issue and find a compatible driver, follow these steps.
Check Device Manager
- Open Device Manager:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Find the Camera:
- Look under Cameras or Imaging Devices.
- If you see your camera listed, check if there is a yellow triangle or "Unknown Device."
- Update Driver:
- Right-click the camera > Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
Reinstall the Camera Driver
- Right-click the camera in Device Manager and select Uninstall Device.
- Restart your laptop. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
- If the driver isn't reinstalled:
- Go to the HP Drivers and Software page.
- Enter your laptop's model number and download the camera driver.
HP Support Assistant
- Open HP Support Assistant on your laptop.
- Go to the Updates tab and check for camera driver updates.
- Download and install any available updates.
Test Camera Functionality
- Open the Camera app on your laptop to test if the camera is detected.
- If it’s not working, try these additional steps:
- Ensure the camera is enabled in Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and enable access for apps.
- Check if there is a physical privacy shutter or a keyboard shortcut (Fn + camera icon).
- Ensure the camera is enabled in Settings:
Manually Download Camera Driver
- Visit the camera manufacturer’s website (e.g., Realtek, Intel, or others) if HP’s website doesn’t have the driver.
- Use the device's Hardware ID:
- Right-click the camera in Device Manager > Properties > Details > Set Property to Hardware Ids.
- Search for the hardware ID online to locate a compatible driver.
Camera Not Detected?
- Ensure your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings allow the camera to function:
- Restart the laptop and press the BIOS key (usually F10 or Esc).
- Navigate to Security or Devices and enable the camera.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
