HP Pavillion Desktop 590-p0066
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My desktop computer has 1 hdmi and one vga output. My current set up is using two monitors. The monitors are both Dell U2414H 24" monitors.  I currently have a vga to hdmi adaptor used to connect to one of the monitors. the other connects directly to the HDMI ouput port on the desktop. The problem is monitor that is connected to the vga output isn't nearly as sharp and it kind of hurts my eyes when staring at the two side by side.

Today i tried to use the USB 3.1 type c to hdmi adaptor to connect the monitor. I get a message popping up stating " Display conection might be limited. Make sure the DisplayPort device you're connecting to is supported by your PC" I am just trying to get a set up that will work that uses 1080p on both monitors.

Any suggestions?

@willystilly,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.  I understand you are in need of support,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

Are you trying to connect this monitor to the front port on the computer?

Have you tried to use a different USB-Type C adapter?

IN the meantime, let's try these steps here:

I did go through the Product specifications and found that your PC was shipped with one USB 3.1-Type C: 1 which is available on the front panel.

Alternatively, I would suggest you try to use a different adapter, for more details, please visit this link: HP PCs, Tablets and Accessories - Using USB Type-C to Transfer Power and Data

Next thing, I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Next thing, I would also suggest you try these steps here:

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform a Windows update:

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the display drivers from device manager:

Display drivers:

Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10

Select Device Manager.

Expand the entry. Right-click the problematic device and select Uninstall device.

You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.

Now restart the computer and then update the Bios, and graphics card drivers from our HP support website, using this link.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the HP Support Assistant from the control panel and then reinstall the latest version.

Download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hello, thank you for your respnse. So are you saying that the front usb type c device on my machine should be able to support video output to a monitor? I first wanted to check that before i uninstalled or installed new drivers. I am trying to use Insignia usb type-c to hdmi adapter.

@willystilly,

Thank you for replying,

I understand you have a concern with the USB Type-C port, As suggested in the previous post the Type -C port is available on the front and not in the back.

So request you to connect the Monitor to the front USB port and check if that helps.

More over, I would suggest you check the adapter what you are using? Alternatively, you can try using a different one and check if that helps.

You can also go through the support document from the previous post which should help you with this issue.

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂
Regards,
