If your computer screen isn't coming on but the side indicator light (with the three discs) is blinking, it generally indicates that the computer is powered on but there's an issue with the display or related components. Here’s a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot this issue:
1. Check Power and Connections
Verify Power Connection:
- Ensure that the computer is properly connected to a power source.
- If using a laptop, check that the power adapter is securely plugged into both the laptop and the wall outlet.
Inspect Display Brightness:
- Make sure the display brightness is not turned all the way down. Use the brightness function keys on your keyboard (often marked with sun icons) to increase brightness.
Check Display Cable:
- If you’re using a desktop with an external monitor, ensure the monitor’s cable is securely connected to both the monitor and the computer.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
For Laptops:
- Power Off: Shut down the laptop completely.
- Unplug and Remove Battery: Disconnect the power adapter and, if possible, remove the battery.
- Hold Power Button: Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect and Restart: Reinsert the battery (if removed), plug in the power adapter, and turn on the laptop.
