HP ENVY 750-524 Desktop - SN: 4CE71322H4 Prod#: Z5M39AA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Late last year I tried to install a video card into this machine and ran into UEFI/BIOS problems. It apparently did "turn off the onboard 630 graphics, but it didn't recognize the card and so I had no display. I saw workarounds posted, but kind of, in my hands(grin) dangerous, So I'm still operating just the INTEL 630 graphics.

My motherboard is listed as an Osense2-K, and speccy says the motherboard is "HP 82F1 (U3E1)"

The video card that didn't work is a Gigabyte GV-N730D5-2G1

I'm curretly looking at an EVGA GTX1050 (or possibly the 1050 SC) 02G-P4-6150-KR, DX12 OSD SUpport w/ 2GB GDDR5

The $64,000 question - will this video card work without playing around with the UEFI/BIOS setting?

Thank you for the additional information, @wesstrueb.

I believe that the GTX 1050 or 1050 SC should work nicely in your computer.  The only difference in the two is the SC is slightly overclocked which is a good thing.  I would appreciate hearing what EVGA's Techs have to say.

@wesstrueb, welcome back to the forum.

I am not certain why the Gigabyte video card wouldn't work in your computer.  I reviewed the specs and they look like a good fit for the motherboard.  The only possible reason that I can think of is, it says that it will run with a 300W PSU.  I have read where in some instances this was not the case.  For this reason, I am skeptical of saying that the GTX 1050 will work; although it should without any problems.  I have recommended it to several members of the Forum for computers much like yours.

I suggest that you contact the manufacturer's Tech Support for help with choosing the best card for your system.  They are the experts on their products.  I like EVGA's cards.  Their Tech Support has always been very helpful when I contacted them.

It was an older Gigabyte card, and (I'm trying to recall now...) something about a secure boot problem. I found other responses that did indicate that it doesn't play well with that. (Of course, I should have checked; I didn't realize that my HP was using UEFI with secure boot as opposed to the old BIOS. In any case, son and I, too both like the Gigiabyte cards, but he is also very sold on the EVGA. In anticipation of installing one of these cards I did install a 550W power suppy. It appeared that the 300W in it was just not going to be powerful enough.

I AM waiting a reply from EVGA, as well on what they belive are their motherboard/BIOS compatibilities. I haven't seen anything that would preclude the 1050 (or the 1050 SC)

Thank you so much for your vote of confidence on the EVGA card. And I'll let you know what EVGA has to say.

I appreciate the quick response.

@old_geekster (I kind of like that handle, sir!)

Word back is that it will work just fine!

I'll post back here when (after Fathers' Day, darn!) I get it installed, to let you know how it went. Again, thanks so much for YOUR assistance and assurance.

Have a great day!
