This is a new all-in-one hp desktop. I did download security software but uninstalled after noticing choppy streaming problem. Thinking about recovery.

Hi @cd810,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Choppy streaming on a new all-in-one HP desktop can be frustrating. Since you've already tried uninstalling the security software, here are some other steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue before considering a system recovery:
1. Check Internet Connection
- Speed Test: Use an online speed test (like Speedtest.net) to check your internet speed. Ensure you have a stable and fast connection.
- Ethernet Connection: If possible, connect your computer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the Wi-Fi connection.
2. Update System and Drivers
- Windows Update: Ensure your Windows operating system is fully updated. Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update -> Check for updates.
- Driver Updates: Check for any updates to your network adapter drivers. Go to Device Manager -> Network adapters -> Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter -> Update driver.
3. Router Settings
- Router Firmware: Ensure your router’s firmware is up-to-date. Check the manufacturer’s website for updates.
- Channel Interference: Change the Wi-Fi channel in your router settings to reduce interference from other networks.
4. Check Background Applications
- Resource Usage: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to check for any applications using excessive network or system resources.
- Close Unnecessary Programs: Close any unnecessary applications that might be consuming bandwidth.
5. Adjust Streaming Settings
- Lower Quality: Temporarily reduce the streaming quality to see if it improves performance. Most streaming services allow you to change video quality settings.
6. Disable Background Processes
- Startup Programs: Disable unnecessary startup programs that may be running in the background. Go to Task Manager -> Startup tab -> Disable unnecessary programs.
- Windows Services: Disable any unnecessary Windows services. Type msconfig in the search bar, open System Configuration, and go to the Services tab to disable non-essential services.
7. Network Troubleshooter
Windows has a built-in network troubleshooter. Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Troubleshoot -> Internet Connections.
8. Check for Malware
- Run a Scan: Even though you uninstalled the security software, it's worth running a full scan with a trusted antivirus or antimalware program to ensure your system is clean.
9. Power Settings
- High Performance Mode: Ensure your computer is set to High Performance mode. Go to Control Panel -> Power Options -> Select High Performance.
10. Temporary Files and Cache
- Clear Cache: Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, as well as temporary system files. Use tools like Disk Cleanup or CCleaner.
11. Recovery Options
- System Restore: If the problem started recently, you can use System Restore to revert your computer to a previous state. Go to Control Panel -> Recovery -> Open System Restore.
- Reset PC: As a last resort, you can perform a system reset. Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery -> Reset this PC. This will reinstall Windows but give you the option to keep your files.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
