I have a Surface Pro 8 and want to be able to use my HP all in one as the monitor and I've tried to connect it via Bluetooth but it is only accessing audio for some reason. I then used a USB to USBc figuring that a direct connection would would and I get nothing. Both are running on Windows 11.
What am I doing wrong?

The connection is done using Wi-Fi, not bluetooth as described here

Microsoft told me I needed an active HDMI cable to connect from my surface pro 4 to an external monitor.
In other words the signal was not sufficient to drive the monitor I was attempting to connect to. Possibly a powered HDMI switch might have worked. I tried several HDMI cables and the distance was less than a meter.

@Lisa_J_J -- want to be able to use my HP all in one as the monitor
Does your All-In-One have an "HDMI-input" socket? Not all models do, but you need an All-In-One that does have such a socket, to accept the video-output from your Surface Pro 8.
Some models have an "HDMI-output" socket, allowing the All-In-One to "feed" an external monitor.
