Using an HDMI cable, I can view my HP e24d from my laptop, but I can get my camera to work.  Everything I read says use a DisplayPort cable, but I do not have a DisplayPort output on my laptop.  How do I get this to work properly?

In device manager there is no camera listed under Camera or Imaging Devices.

A DisplayPort video-cable connects a DisplayPort socket on your computer to a DisplayPort socket on the monitor.

I think that you need a cable that connects to a USB-port on your computer, and to some port on the monitor. Imagine that the monitor is a webcam, with the camera at one end, and a USB-connector at the other end of the webcam's cable. In this case, the camera is embedded in the monitor, and requires a USB cable to connect to a USB port on the computer.

That was my thought as well after o eliminated the ability to use a DisplayPort cable.  HDMI to HDMI works fine for output to the monitor, but does not engage the camera.  Should I use both HDMI and USB at the same to get the desired effect?  I think I need to.

I think that you need a cable that connects to a USB-port on your computer, and to some port on the monitor.

You have two devices, namely the monitor and the camera, inside one case.

In this case, you need two cables -- the HDMI (for sending audio & video to the monitor) and the other cable for sending audio & video from the camera to your computer.

Note that a DisplayPort cable, connected to a DisplayPort socket on the computer and to the DisplayPort socket on the monitor can also send audio & video from the computer to your monitor. But, you still need the other cable to send audio & video from the camera to a USB port on the computer.
