Hi @GPitch2024,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

The "Dynamic Contrast Ratio (DCR) off" notification repeatedly flashing on your HP2159 monitor connected to your new HP Slimline S01-pF4055t with Intel UHD Graphics 730 is likely due to a setting within the monitor itself, rather than being controlled through Windows or the graphics driver. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the DCR issue:

Note: This could be compatibility issues with your current OS.

Step 1: Check Monitor OSD (On-Screen Display) Menu

  1. Access the Monitor's OSD Menu:
    • Use the buttons on your monitor (typically located on the front, side, or bottom of the screen) to open the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.
  2. Locate the DCR or Dynamic Contrast Setting:
    • Navigate through the OSD settings and look for Picture, Image, or similar sections.
    • Find the Dynamic Contrast Ratio (DCR) setting.
  3. Disable DCR:
    • Set DCR to Off within the monitor settings if it's not already disabled.

Step 2: Reset Monitor to Factory Settings

  1. Reset Monitor Settings:
    • Within the OSD menu, find the option to Reset or Restore Factory Settings.
    • This will revert any custom settings that might be causing the DCR notifications.

Step 3: Update Monitor Firmware (If Available)

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Visit the HP Support page for your HP2159 monitor model to see if there are any firmware updates available.
    • If a firmware update is available, follow the instructions provided to update the monitor.

Step 4: Check Graphics Control Panel Settings

  1. Open Intel Graphics Command Center:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select Intel Graphics Command Center or Graphics Properties.
    • Navigate to Display Settings.
  2. Adjust Display Features:
    • Check if there are options related to dynamic contrast or power-saving features and adjust them accordingly.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @GPitch2024 ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Step 5: Check Power Settings

  1. Adjust Power Settings in Windows:
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
    • Set the power plan to High Performance and check if the issue persists.

Step 6: Disable Any Third-Party Monitor Control Software

  • Some third-party software, such as monitor management or screen control apps, might interfere with DCR settings. Ensure no such applications are influencing the display settings.

Step 7: Test with Another Monitor or Cable

  1. Use a Different Monitor:
    • If possible, connect another monitor to your HP Slimline S01-pF4055t to see if the DCR message appears on a different monitor.
  2. Test Different Cables:
    • Try using a different HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA cable to rule out cable issues that might cause miscommunication between the PC and monitor.

These steps should help control or disable the Dynamic Contrast Ratio (DCR) issue with your HP2159 monitor.

If none of the above steps resolve the DCR issue, consider contacting HP support for further assistance, as it might involve a deeper compatibility issue with the monitor and Windows 11 drivers.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi Elohi_NR- appreciate your thorough troubleshooting algorithm and expertise!!

CONCLUSION:: Monitor HP2159 purchased in 2010 (14 years old) is indeed NOT compatible with WIN 11 OS on new computer and no updated monitor or graphics drivers available or supported from Intel or HP to make compatible.

So, issue cannot be rectified unless reverting back to older OS which is not practical to me with new computer running WIN 11 OS needing security and bug fix updates regularly. The HP2159 monitor's physical controls are not able to enable or disable the DCR control and even failed with HP display center ap controls which can enable but auto reverts back to DCR OFF flashing issue.

SOLUTION:

Time to purchase a new monitor compatible with WIN 11 OS.

TEMPORARY SOLUTION:

Currently employing a flat screen 27" LG UHD TV as my monitor until new HP monitor arrives with NO DCR OFF flashing.

Hope this saves others on this forum with the same issue the time I spent troubleshooting and with HP tech support senior supervisor... with confirmation obtained of incompatibility.

Cheers!
