Hi @aquibjawedx,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

A dark shadow in the corner of your display is often indicative of a hardware issue with the screen itself. Since you've already tried BIOS defaults and HP Health Diagnostics without finding any problems, the issue is likely related to the physical display or its connections. Here are some steps you can take to further diagnose and possibly resolve the issue:

Check for External Factors

Clean the Screen:

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the screen. Sometimes smudges or dirt can appear as shadows.

Check for Pressure or Damage:

  • Inspect the screen for any signs of physical damage or pressure points. Shadows can occur if the screen has been pressed or damaged in that area.

Display Test

  1. Connect to an External Monitor:
    • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI or VGA cable.
    • If the shadow does not appear on the external display, the issue is likely with your laptop's screen.
    • If the shadow appears on the external display as well, it could be a graphics card or driver issue.

Update or Reinstall Graphics Drivers

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest graphics drivers for your laptop model (HP Laptop 15s-fq5xxx).
  • Alternatively, you can use Windows Device Manager to update the graphics drivers:
    • Press Windows + X and select "Device Manager".
    • Expand "Display adapters", right-click on your graphics adapter, and select "Update driver".
    • Follow the prompts to search for and install the latest drivers.

Reinstall Graphics Drivers:

  • If updating doesn’t resolve the issue, try reinstalling the graphics drivers:
    • In Device Manager, right-click on your graphics adapter and select "Uninstall device".
    • Restart your computer, and Windows will automatically reinstall the graphics drivers.

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @aquibjawedx,

Please find the next set of steps below.

Check Display Settings

  1. Adjust Brightness and Resolution:
    • Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings".
    • Adjust the brightness and resolution settings to see if the shadow changes or improves.

Hardware Diagnostic and Repair

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Although you've already run HP Health Diagnostic, it might be worth running it again or using the HP Support Assistant for a more comprehensive check.
  • Open the HP Support Assistant, go to "My devices", select your laptop, and run the "Hardware Diagnostics" tool.

Check for Warranty or Repair Options:

  • If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP Support for repair or replacement options.
  • If the laptop is out of warranty, consider taking it to a professional technician for further diagnosis and potential screen replacement.

Potential Causes and Solutions Recap:

External Factors:

  • Clean the screen.
  • Check for pressure points or damage.

Display Test:

  • Connect to an external monitor to determine if the issue is with the screen or graphics.

Graphics Drivers:

  • Update or reinstall graphics drivers.

Display Settings:

  • Adjust brightness and resolution.

Hardware Diagnostic and Repair:

  • Run HP Hardware Diagnostics.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it's likely a hardware problem with the display itself that may require repair or replacement. Contact HP Phone Support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi ! First of all  thank you for replying. As you mentioned above steps to do, so I want to tell you that i have done all the steps  except the external  monitor attaching because I don't have that one. And the dark shadow is not permanent. Any times it comes for around 30-40 seconds and goes.

Hi @aquibjawedx ,

Since you mentioned that, the shadow is not permanent, this could be an application issue or maybe a screen glitch.

Let's wait for a couple more days and if it appears, I recommend you contact Phone support for service options😊
