Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

My old Dell AIO PC was also a monitor for my Laptop. When I replaced it with a new Dell Inspiron 5400 AIO PC I couldn't get it to work as a monitor for my laptop. Google says you simply connect with an HDMI cable but that doesn't work. What must I do now, buy a new monitor for my laptop?
