HP ENVY 23 23-inch IPS LED
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP ENVY 23 monitor went black but it is receiving power as the power light is blinking with a white light. It doesn’t let itself be powered off, the only way has been to unplug the power cord. When I plug it in the display remains black but the power light continues blinking. I’ve attached it to a different computer, a lap top, and it acts in the same way. I’ve tried smother monitor on my desktop and that one works, so the issue is definitely with the monitor. I’ve searched for similar issues on the board but not found exactly the same issue. What is the blinking monitor power light indication of? Thanks

Hi@Dan_LDN, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details and I would appreciate if you could, perhaps elaborate on your concern.

  • When was the last time the monitor was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, I recommend you disconnect the monitor from the computer and remove the power cable. Press and hold the power button on the monitor for 5 seconds with all the cables disconnected from the monitor and then connect the power cable and turn it on. (Note: Do not connect the monitor the computer) See if you are getting a message “check video cable” message on the monitor.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Praveen, thanks for your reply. The monitor was working fine until that day very day, when , during one of my breaks, it stopped working. I had not made any software or hardware changes to the regular desktop that is usually connected to it. I tried to attach it to a lap top and had the same issue there. I unplugged it from both computers, unplugged the power cable, plugged the power cable back in and tried to switch it off. The same reaction happens. The power light switches on in with a white light (i.e. regular active mode - not the yellow light as in standby mode) and then blinks - but very slowly, approximately every two seconds. After a while the power light goes out completely on the front but the very small power light, next to the power connector on the back remains lit. It seems to receive power but somehow does not seem to process it. The screen has been blank at all times.

I tried your your recommendation, unplugging it and depressing the power button while unplugged for 5s. Unfortunately that did not resolve the matter.

This is an old monitor, believe from 2016, so it may have reached the end of life? Any other tip on how to revive it?
