My desktop won’t turn on, there is no fan noises or anything, but where the battery cord plugs into the back, the battery indicator light is on. I’ve done all troubleshooting steps, and nothing works. Keyboard lights up as well.

Hi @Barnjo23

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that the power adapter is supplying standby power, but the desktop is not completing the power-on sequence. The issue could be related to the power button, power supply, motherboard, memory, or an internal short. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Perform a hard reset

A hard reset can re‑establish the connection between BIOS and hardware:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Disconnect all peripherals (USB drives, external display, printer, docking station).
  • Unplug the AC power cord.
  • If your model has a removable or service‑door battery, disconnect it.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery (if present) and AC power, but leave peripherals disconnected.
  • Press the power button and see if fans and screen come on.

Check status lights and blink codes

On many HP desktops/notebooks, caps lock, num lock, and battery LEDs can show hardware errors:

Reseat internal components (if comfortable opening the case)

Many “no start” issues are caused by loose connections:

I Hope this helps, Please revert with the product details if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
