I recently installed two new M22f monitors on my HP desktop. I set the Power setting to sleep the displays after 45 minutes. That worked perfectly, but only once. After bringing them up again, the sleep "timer" had no effect and they remained on for several hours. I reset the sleep time to one hour. That worked, but again, only one time, after which they remained on. How do I fix this issue?

Hi @BillT46,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When your monitors are not consistently going to sleep according to your Power settings, it could be due to various factors such as driver issues, background applications preventing sleep, or incorrect power settings. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

1. Update Drivers

Ensure that your graphics drivers and monitor drivers are up-to-date.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • Go to the manufacturer's website (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) and download the latest drivers for your graphics card.
  • Install the drivers and restart your computer.

Update Monitor Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager by pressing Win + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Expand the Monitors section, right-click on your monitors, and select Update driver.
  • Follow the prompts to search for updated drivers.

2. Check Power & Sleep Settings

Double-check your power and sleep settings to ensure they are correctly configured.

Open Power Options:

  • Right-click on the Start menu and select Power Options.

Change Plan Settings:

  • Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.

Change Advanced Power Settings:

  • Click on Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand Display and set the Turn off display after to your preferred time.
  • Also, ensure that the Sleep settings are correctly configured.

3. Check for Power Requests

Some applications or devices might be preventing the monitors from going to sleep.

Open Command Prompt:

  • Press Win + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).

Check Power Requests:

  • Type the following command and press Enter:

  • This will show if any applications or drivers are preventing the system from sleeping.

Address Power Requests:

  • If an application or driver is preventing sleep, consider updating, reconfiguring, or disabling it.

Kindly check the next steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @BillT46,

Please find the next steps below.

4. Disable Wake Timers

Sometimes wake timers can prevent your monitors from sleeping.

Open Power Options:

  • Right-click on the Start menu and select Power Options.

Change Plan Settings:

  • Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.

Change Advanced Power Settings:

  • Click on Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand Sleep, then Allow wake timers, and set it to Disable.

5. Check for Background Applications

Certain applications running in the background can prevent your monitors from going to sleep.

Open Task Manager:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

Check Background Processes:

  • Go to the Processes tab and check for any background processes that might be preventing sleep.

End Unnecessary Processes:

  • End any unnecessary processes or applications.

6. System Maintenance and Updates

Keeping your system updated can resolve many underlying issues.

Run Windows Update:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Perform System Maintenance:

  • Run a system maintenance task by searching for Control Panel > System and Security > Security and Maintenance > Maintenance > Start maintenance.

7. Check Monitor Settings

Some monitors have built-in settings that can affect sleep behavior.

  1. Access Monitor Settings:
    • Use the monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) menu to access its settings.
  2. Check Sleep Settings:
    • Ensure that any sleep or power-saving settings on the monitor itself are configured correctly.

8. Reinstall Graphics Driver

Sometimes reinstalling the graphics driver can resolve sleep issues.

  1. Uninstall Current Driver:
    • Open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, right-click on your graphics card, and select Uninstall device.
  2. Reinstall Latest Driver:
    • Download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website and install it.

9. BIOS/UEFI Settings

Occasionally, power settings in the BIOS/UEFI can interfere with the sleep function.

Enter BIOS/UEFI:

  • Restart your computer and press the required key (usually F2, F10, Delete, or Esc) to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.

Check Power Settings:

  • Look for power management settings and ensure they are correctly configured.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be worth contacting HP phone support for further assistance, as there could be a deeper hardware or firmware issue at play.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
