Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

i was using my laptop to play a game on steam when the screen went black and the entire display became smaller. i had other stuff to do so i had to just turn the laptop off, when i returned the entire display was larger and made everything strechted and bigger. i used a driver update but it took forever and didnt do anything, please help i hate my screen like this.

I understand you are having issues with the display not working on your HP notebook.  Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details: 

 

To provide you with an accurate solution, I"ll need a few more details:

Have you checked if this happens in the bios or an external screen?

Did you update the graphics card drivers and the bios?

 

In the meantime, let's try these steps here: 

 

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.

 

Performing Bios Defaults:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

If the computer restarts normally, you are done. If the issue persists with the  display, proceed to the next step. to uninstall the display drivers from device manager.

 

Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.

Check the box that states delete the software for this device.

Now Restart the computer and then update the Bios, Chipset and graphics card drivers on your PC from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers.

 

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

just to mention i never touched any of the display options till after this happened
