Windows 11, HP Pavilion 14-dv2014TU
Laptop getting turned on, I could hear the windows sound, but nothing on screen, it's black. The HP service person told me that it's either cable fault or mother board fault or both. How could this be the case within only 1.5 years of purchase and even after careful use? I'm being asked to purchase the care pack that costs around 14000 Rs. Too costly for me to afford. Very disappointed. Please call me, I need to talk to the customer service representative.

@GB3021, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
I'm really sorry to hear you're dealing with this issue! It can be incredibly frustrating when something like this happens, especially after only 1.5 years of use. I understand how expensive it can be to consider purchasing an extended care pack. Here's a step-by-step troubleshooting guide for you to try before considering additional costs.
Check for External Display:
Try connecting the laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI cable. If the external display shows the screen, this could suggest an issue with the laptop’s internal screen.
To toggle between displays, you might need to press Fn + F4 (this key varies based on the laptop model).
Hard Reset:
Power off the laptop completely.
Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
Plug the power adapter back in, then try turning on the laptop again.
Check for Backlight:
Shine a flashlight onto the screen at an angle. If you see a faint image on the screen, it's likely a backlight issue.
If the screen is completely dark, it might be a more serious internal issue (either the motherboard or screen).
Reset Display Drivers:
Sometimes, a corrupted graphics driver can cause the display to malfunction. Here’s how to reset it:
Power off your laptop.
Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B simultaneously. This should restart the graphics driver.
If the screen flickers or you see anything after that, the issue is likely software-based.
BIOS Reset:
Sometimes, resetting the BIOS settings can fix display issues.
Turn off the laptop.
Press and hold Esc or F10 key (depends on the model) as soon as the laptop starts booting to enter the BIOS.
Once in BIOS, press F9 to reset the settings to default.
Save and exit the BIOS.
Hardware Diagnostics:
HP laptops often have built-in diagnostics that can help check for hardware issues.
Turn off the laptop.
Press and hold the Esc key, then press the Power button.
This will open the diagnostics menu. Run the System Diagnostics (especially Display tests) to check for any hardware-related problems.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
