Hi HP Community,
I’m using an HP Victus Gaming Laptop and I’ve noticed a strange issue with the display. On the left edge of the screen, rainbow-like colors appear. Sometimes the colored band is large, sometimes small, and occasionally it disappears completely.
It doesn’t seem to be related to any specific app or activity, and I’ve tried restarting, but the issue still comes and goes.
Has anyone faced a similar issue or know what might be causing this? Could it be a hardware issue or something with the display driver?
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!

Hi @Nurax,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
1. Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the Screen: Make sure the screen is clean and free from any physical damage like cracks or pressure marks.
- Connection Issues: Ensure the display cable (internally) is securely connected. Loose connections can sometimes cause display anomalies.
2. Restart and Check in Safe Mode
- Restart the Laptop: Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve display issues.
- Boot in Safe Mode:
- Restart your computer and press F8 before the Windows logo appears.
- Choose "Safe Mode" from the options.
- Observe if the rainbow-like colors appear in Safe Mode. If not, it may be a software-related issue rather than hardware.
3. Update Graphics Drivers
Update Graphics Card Driver:
- Go to Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Expand the "Display adapters" section.
- Right-click on the graphics card and select "Update driver."
- Follow the prompts to search for and install the latest driver.
Direct Download from Manufacturer:
- Visit the HP Support page and enter your laptop model to find the latest drivers.
- Alternatively, get the latest drivers directly from NVIDIA or AMD, depending on your GPU.
4. Display Settings and Calibration
Adjust Display Settings:
- Right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
- Ensure the resolution and refresh rate are set to the recommended values.
Calibrate Display:
- Type "Calibrate display color" in the search bar and follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate your display.
5. External Display Test
- Connect to External Monitor:
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI or DisplayPort cable.
- If the external display shows no rainbow-like colors, the issue may be with your laptop’s display hardware.
- If the colors appear on the external display as well, it’s likely a graphics card or driver issue.
6. Running Diagnostic Tests
- HP Diagnostic Tools:
- Use the HP Support Assistant to run hardware diagnostics:
- Open HP Support Assistant.
- Go to "My devices" and select your laptop.
- Click on "Troubleshooting and fixes," then "Run hardware diagnostics."
- Use the HP Support Assistant to run hardware diagnostics:
I hope this helps.
