Hi @Dinvain,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When connecting a laptop to a docking station and not getting a display on your external monitor, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to identify and resolve the issue. Here's a detailed guide to help you through the process:

1. Check Connections

  • Ensure Proper Connection: Double-check that all cables are securely connected to both the docking station and the laptop.
  • Power Supply: Make sure the docking station is connected to a power source (if required).

2. Docking Station Compatibility

  • Compatibility Check: Verify that the docking station is compatible with your laptop model.
  • Driver Installation: Some docking stations require specific drivers. Check the manufacturer’s website for any necessary drivers and install them.

3. Display Settings

  • Windows Display Settings:
    1. Press Windows + P to open the display options.
    2. Select "Duplicate," "Extend," or "Second screen only" to ensure the external display is recognized.
    3. Alternatively, right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings." Ensure the external monitor is detected and configured correctly.

4. Update Graphics Drivers

  • Device Manager:
    1. Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start menu and selecting it.
    2. Expand the "Display adapters" section.
    3. Right-click on your graphics driver and select "Update driver."
    4. Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."

5. Docking Station Firmware and Software

  • Firmware Update: Check the docking station manufacturer’s website for any firmware updates and apply them if available.
  • Software Utility: Some docking stations have accompanying software that needs to be installed. Ensure this is downloaded and installed.

6. Test Different Ports and Cables

  • Different Ports: Try connecting the external monitor to a different port on the docking station.
  • Different Cables: Use a different cable to rule out any cable issues.

7. Monitor Settings

  • Input Source: Ensure the external monitor is set to the correct input source (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.).
  • Functionality Test: Test the external monitor with another device to ensure it’s functioning properly.

8. BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Check BIOS/UEFI: Some laptops have settings related to external displays and docking stations in the BIOS/UEFI.
    1. Restart your laptop and press the BIOS/UEFI key (commonly F2, F10, Delete, or Esc).
    2. Look for display or external monitor settings and ensure they are enabled.

9. Power Cycle the Docking Station

  • Power Cycle: Disconnect the docking station from the power source and laptop. Wait for a few minutes, then reconnect everything and try again.

10. Test with Another Laptop

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
