I have an HP Compaq 8100 Elite CMT with an onboard DP 1.2. I'm thinking of buying a Dell 4k monitor, however, I'm not sure if the onboard DP can handle the 4K monitor. I'm using it for simple tasks like trading. Thanks!

Thank you for the additional information, @megaera.
Here is the Technical Reference Guide for the computer. In section 6-4, Integrated Graphics Subsystem, Table 6-3, this is what it says:
As you can see, the DisplayPort supports 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz.

Is the DP 1.2 port on a discrete video card or integrated video? If it is on a video card, what is the model of it?

You are welcome, @megaera. I wish I had better news for you. Since the computer was released in 2010 this is no doubt the reason for the resolution.
