Hi @LAEllie,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Restart Your Computer:
- Sometimes a simple restart can resolve the issue by reinitializing the webcam.
Check Webcam Connection:
- Ensure that the webcam is properly connected (if it's an external webcam).
- For built-in webcams, ensure there are no physical obstructions.
Update or Roll Back Drivers:
- Update Driver:
- Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager".
- Expand the "Imaging Devices" or "Cameras" section.
- Right-click on your webcam and select "Update driver".
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".
- Roll Back Driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click on your webcam.
- Select "Properties".
- Go to the "Driver" tab and click on "Roll Back Driver" (if available).
Re-enable the Webcam:
- Sometimes the webcam might be disabled in the device manager.
- Open "Device Manager".
- Expand "Imaging Devices" or "Cameras".
- Right-click the webcam and select "Enable device".
Check Webcam Privacy Settings:
- On Windows 10/11:
- Go to "Settings" > "Privacy" > "Camera".
- Make sure that the toggle switch under "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on.
- Ensure that the specific app (like Zoom) has permission to access the camera.
Reinstall the Webcam Driver:
- Uninstall the webcam driver and then reinstall it:
- In "Device Manager", right-click on your webcam.
- Select "Uninstall device".
- Restart your computer. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
I hope this helps.
