EliteDesk 800 G2
Linux

I bought a used ED 800 G2 to run as a multimedia machine. It's adorable and perfect for the task.

Except one thing. I can't get audio out the DisplayPort connector. I have installed a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and there is no audio device for the HDMI output. In fact there are no digital audio devices at all, just the main analog device included in intel HD audio driver.

My first question is simple: does someone have an 800 G2 running on windows with HDMI or DP audio? If windows can do it, I'm sure I can get it working in linux.

Second question is similar to the first does anyone know if this system actually supports audio out the DP connectors?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much

I figured it out.

This is an old issue I'd caught a long time ago.

In order to use the intel audio drivers, alsa and all sound drivers must be compiled as modules. If you compile them into the kernel, they often don't work. As was the case this time.
