Up until two days ago, my built-in camera was working. Now I get an error message 0xA00F4244: camera not detected. My camera is no longer listed in the device manager.

I tried doing a restore on my computer to no avail.

I contacted Microsoft support and was told to go to HP for a driver.

I cannot find any drivers to download on the HP website to reinstall the camera.

Help please!

please run those F2 (bios) diagnostics first to verify that the webcam works before checking to see if the problem is Windows
Does the camera show up in the device manager? Bring up the Windows device manager and try rolling back the camera driver. Possibly a Windows update installed the wrong driver.

Did you try rolling back the camera driver?

It could be the camera driver or the USB driver if the camera is connected to the USB. Many internal cameras are connected to the USB.

In the pictures below you would select the camera driver and then look for 'rollback' If the word "rollback" is grayed out then uninstall it.

If camera driver is the problem

If the problem is the wrong USB driver for the camera

If you cannot rollback the driver then try to find the best one or let windows try. One way is to just uninstall the camera and reboot as described in this official HP document..

If uninstalling or rolling back did not work then see if there is a windows restore point that has a date from when the camera last worked.

This video describes how to use a restore point.

Alternately enter restore in the windows search bar. Let me know if this works.

There is no camera listed in the device manager.

I cannot rollback the driver.

Going to an earlier restore point on the computer does not work.

Does a camera show up when you select the "show hidden devices" ?

if so, see if you can rollback the driver is one is listed.  if no driver is listed then what is the DEV and PID of the camera device?

This shows how to find the Dev and Pid
You can use the Dev and Pid to (sometimes) find a driver at this site

It would be helpful to know the model of your PC. Since this is not a laptop, you must have obtained a webcam for your desktop system.  What is the webcam model?   I have a clip-on webcam that quit working when Windows 11 came out.  It finally started with a 25h2 update just a month ago.

Found this under events tab for Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\5&422cb28&0&5 were not migrated from previous OS installation due to partial or ambiguous device match.

The first code 0 and 2 simply indicate a device did not respond.  The other pair are codes  for a Logitech Unifying Receiver.

Expand:

  • Cameras
  • Imaging Devices
  • Universal Serial Bus controllers

See anything else?

Remove the failed USB device

In Device Manager:

  1. Right-click Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).
  2. Select Uninstall device.
  3. Check Delete the driver software if available.
  4. Restart the computer.

Do not simply Scan for Hardware Changes before rebooting.

Did the webcam work in the F2 diagnostics?

I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). and rebotted the computer.

Still no camera.

I don't understand what you meant by your question: Did the webcam work in the F2 diagnostics?

HP Recommended

When booting, press F2 and run the UEFI diagnostics.  Select the webcam test. If the webcam does not work then there is a hardware problem, not a windows problem.

The webcam test passed. Then I manually  opened the camera and ran the test again. The diagnostic report said:

Failure ID: RGDW19-A7PD5H-PSCU3G-Q39M03

What are my options?

As a last resort, would running a system restore repair it?

Lookup any of the 24 character error codes here.

I cannot do it for you as more information is required.

I do not understand exactly what happened.  If the webcam test passed then the camera is working.

What do you men by "Then I manually  opened the camera"
