Using an HP M24h monitor with an HP ENVY x360. Worked fine for over a year then after an automatic Windows 11 update the other day the M24h is no loner detected.  I tried downloading and installing the driver from HP.com, but when I attempt to install I receive an error message, "failed to extract archive."  I temporarily disabled Antivirus software but still received error message.

Hi @ForzaAE

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I truly understand how frustrating it must feel when a setup that worked seamlessly for over a year suddenly stops after an update. Thank you for already trying steps like disabling antivirus and attempting the driver installation—your effort is appreciated.

Let’s walk through a structured set of actions to bring your HP M24h monitor back to life with your HP ENVY x360.

Step 1: Check the Basics

  • Ensure the HDMI or DisplayPort cable is firmly connected on both ends. Try reseating it or testing with another cable if available.
  • Confirm the monitor is powered on and the correct input source is selected using the monitor’s on‑screen menu.

Step 2: Windows Display Settings

  • Right‑click on the desktop and select Display settings.
  • Scroll down to Multiple displays and click Detect.
  • If the monitor is listed but not active, choose Extend or Duplicate.

Step 3: Update Graphics Drivers

  • Open Device Manager (press Windows + X → Device Manager).
  • Expand Display adapters, right‑click your graphics driver, and select Update driver → Search automatically.
  • If this doesn’t help, download the latest graphics driver directly from your system’s graphics vendor (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA depending on your ENVY x360 model).

Step 4: Clean Install of Monitor Driver

Since you encountered “failed to extract archive,” let’s try a fresh download:

  • Visit the official HP support page for the HP M24h monitor: HP M24h Monitor Drivers and Software
  • Download the driver package again, saving it to a new folder on your PC.
  • Right‑click the downloaded file → Properties → General tab → If you see “Unblock,” click it.
  • Then right‑click the file → Extract All, and run the setup manually.

Step 5: Windows Update Rollback (if needed)

Sometimes a recent update interferes with drivers:

  • Go to Settings → Windows Update → Update history.
  • If the issue started immediately after a specific update, you can uninstall that update from here to test.

Step 7: Test Monitor on Another Device

  • Connect the HP M24h to another laptop or desktop. If it works there, the issue is isolated to the ENVY x360 configuration.

By following these steps, you should be able to narrow down whether the issue lies with the driver installation, the Windows update, or the physical connection.
