Hi @ndjong,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If the firmware update software for your OMEN by HP 27 inch UHD 144Hz Gaming Monitor (OMEN 27k) is displaying only Asian characters, it's likely due to a language setting or region issue within the updater tool. Here are steps you can take to force the firmware update software (sp150966.exe) to display in English or German:
Step 1: Check Regional and Language Settings
Adjust Windows Language Settings:
- Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language in Windows.
- Ensure that English or German is set as your preferred language and is at the top of the list.
- Restart your computer to ensure that these settings are applied globally.
Check Region Settings:
- Go to Settings > Time & Language > Region.
- Set the Country or Region to one that corresponds with your desired language, like Germany for German or a predominantly English-speaking country.
Step 2: Run the Firmware Updater in English or German
Change the Language Setting in the Firmware Update Tool:
- Look for a language option or icon (typically represented by a globe or flag) in the firmware update tool. If there is an English (EN) or German (DE) option, select it.
Modify the Execution Command:
- Right-click on the firmware update file sp150966.exe and select Properties.
- Go to the Shortcut tab if available, and in the Target field, append language parameters like /language:en or /language:de. The exact parameter depends on the software’s configuration capabilities.
Step 3: Use Compatibility Mode
- Run in Compatibility Mode:
- Right-click on sp150966.exe and select Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab and check Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Select Windows 10 or another relevant version, then try running the updater again.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @ndjong ,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Step 4: Extract Firmware Files and Manually Update
Extract the Firmware:
- Use a file extraction tool like 7-Zip to extract the contents of sp150966.exe.
- Look for files related to the firmware update, often with extensions like .bin or .hex, and look for a way to manually initiate the update, such as through a specific executable that may have language settings.
Run Manually with Language Command:
- If you find an executable, try running it from the Command Prompt with additional parameters for language (/en or /de), e.g., update.exe /language:en.
Step 5: Re-download the Firmware Update Tool
- Download from a Different Region:
- Visit the HP Support website and make sure you are downloading the firmware update from a region corresponding to your preferred language (English or German).
- Sometimes, the download link for different regions may carry software configured for that specific region's language.
Following these steps should help you change the language of the firmware update software to English or German for your OMEN 27k monitor.
If all else fails, contact HP support directly and request a region-specific version of the firmware update tool that defaults to English or German.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi,
none of this works.
OS is Windows 10 configured with English as language and German region settings.
Kind regards
Nico
The file properties do not show a shortcut tab.
The file does not start via newly created shortcut.
Command line execution seems to require more options.
