My screen keeps flickering like it's double layered (attached images below). I have this problem for over an year. The screen slowly stops flickering and the display returns to normal over time and returns to normal, unless I close my laptop for a few hours, so I assumed it's a software problem. I also have Intel DSA to keep my driver's up to date so it probably wasn't a driver issue. Over time this problem stopped occuring and never flickered even if I closed the laptop for days. The distance between the doubled layers also reduce when I change my monitor frame rate from 60 to 40 Hz. And a line has formed on the top of the screen ever since the problem started.
But recently due to a faulty sector in my hard drive I had to upgrade to SSD and completely reset my PC. And the problem came back. But since it also returns to normal after 20 mins or so, I didn't pay much heed. But today the distance between the doubled layers was too big the desktop icon on the top were visible in the bottom. And the time taken to cooldown increased. I am worried if the display cable is damaged but why would the problem fix itself after some time? If it's any hardware change I am capable of doing it myself with some guidance as I fixed my hardware problem of my laptop may times with manuals from HP site.
Please Help.

Hi @Shashank_25,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion 15 laptop is experiencing a flickering display, it can be quite frustrating and may impact your overall computing experience. Flickering displays can be caused by various factors, including hardware or software issues. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the problem.
- Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor software glitches that may cause the flickering.
- Check for driver updates: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues. Visit the official HP support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download the latest graphics drivers for your operating system. Install the drivers and restart the laptop to see if the problem persists.
- Adjust display settings: Sometimes, incorrect display settings can lead to flickering. Right-click on the desktop, select "Display settings," and try adjusting the resolution, refresh rate, or scaling options to see if it helps.
- Boot into Safe Mode: Restart your laptop and boot into Safe Mode to determine if the flickering issue is caused by third-party software. In Safe Mode, only essential drivers and services are loaded, which can help identify if the problem is software-related.
- Run Windows Update: Ensure your operating system is up-to-date by running Windows Update. Microsoft often releases patches and updates that can address display issues.
- Test in a different environment: Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV. If the flickering persists on the external display, it indicates a hardware issue with the laptop. If the external display works fine, the issue might be related to the laptop's screen or internal components.
- Check for loose connections: If you are comfortable disassembling your laptop, you can check for loose connections between the display and the motherboard. However, if your laptop is under warranty, it's better to have it checked by an authorized service center to avoid voiding the warranty.
- Update the BIOS: Updating the laptop's BIOS can sometimes resolve display-related problems. Visit the HP support website, enter your laptop's model number, and check if there are any BIOS updates available. Follow the instructions carefully while updating the BIOS.
- Hardware repair/replacement: If none of the above steps resolves the issue, it's possible that there's a hardware problem with the display, such as a faulty backlight, inverter, or LCD panel.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden, thank you for replying. I tried the possible fixes but none of them worked.
Restart your laptop: The problem continued even after I restart.
Check for driver updates: I checked for updates on both Intel DSA and HP support Assistant. All i got was a Bluetooth driver update.
Adjust display settings: As I mentioned in my query, the amount of flickering reduces when I reduce my refresh rate from 60 to 40 Hz but doesn't necessarily stop the problem. Also I don't know if its called flickering, It looks like by screen has a doubled layer and that second layers keeps vibrating. (Pictures in the original query). The one thing that completely surprises me that the displaced layer vibrates slowly back to normal. but it only applies to 40hz. While in 60hz there is like a 2mm gap between the layers. I don't know if I was able to express my problem properly because its hard to put it into words.
Boot into Safe Mode: Even in safe mode it still flickers/vibrates. It even does that when the HP logo displays when I first boot.
The above photo was taken sometime after first opening my PC, when the vibrations is slowly turn back to normal. The problem resets when I close my Laptop leave it for few hours and open it again.
Run Windows Update: I only got one update it was "Cumulative Update Preview for Win 10 Version 2H22 x64 (KB5028244)" and it didn't fix the problem.
Test in a different environment: I don't have any external displays or TVs to test this but I mentioned that I had this problem a year back; during that time I had to connect to a projector where display was fine even though my laptop is flickering/vibrating.
Check for loose connections: My warranty expired almost 3 years back, so I disassembled my PC multiple times after the display problem first occurred to clean off the dust. I even used a soft brush to clean the display connector a few days back.
Update the BIOS: HP didn't suggest any BIOS update.
Hardware repair/replacement: This is what worries me. Like if a hardware component is damaged the consequence is usually permanent or it increases the more I use my laptop. But, as I mentioned earlier, the problem slowly fixes it self after a hour or two. I cannot understand the problem.
