Hello guys. I have a problem with an HP Envy x360 2 in 1 laptop. After some updates i can no loger use the tablet mode on the laptop. When i flip the screen, the laptop goes into tablet mode but touchscreen doesn't work. In device manager i have a foulty driver. I've tried everything i can think of: 3rd party driver update, drivers from hp and intel, drivers from web, updating bios, firmware, installing a fresh os, etc
I'm wondering if anyone else faced this problem.and if there is a workaround. I can always send it to repair since is in warranty but first i thought i'd ask here and not wait a month for service.
Thank you all

Hi @vlad523108,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the touchscreen functionality on your HP Envy x360 2-in-1 laptop isn't working properly due to a driver issue. Since you've already tried many steps like updating drivers, firmware, and even reinstalling the OS, the problem might require some additional troubleshooting.

Potential Causes

  1. Faulty HID Driver: The touchscreen driver is typically listed under "Human Interface Devices" in Device Manager as "HID-compliant touch screen."
  2. Conflict from Windows Updates: Sometimes, Windows updates install generic drivers that are incompatible with the device.
  3. Hardware Issue: Though less likely, it could be a hardware issue with the digitizer.

Workaround and Steps to Resolve

Identify the Faulty Driver

  • In Device Manager, look for any yellow warning icons (⚠️).
  • Right-click on the driver and check the Properties to see if there's an error code. If possible, share the error code.

Uninstall and Reinstall Touchscreen Driver

  • In Device Manager, under Human Interface Devices, locate the HID-compliant touch screen.
  • Right-click and Uninstall Device. Check the box to delete the driver.
  • Restart your laptop to let Windows reinstall the default driver.

Reset Sensors with Intel I2C Driver

Some 2-in-1 devices use Intel I2C or GPIO sensors for touchscreen functionality.

  • Go to Device Manager > System Devices.
  • Look for Intel I2C Controller or Intel GPIO Controller.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the driver from HP's website for your exact model.

Check Action Center and Tablet Mode Settings

  • Ensure Tablet Mode is enabled in Settings > System > Tablet.
  • Verify touchscreen is set up in Settings > Devices > Pen & Touch.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart the device and repeatedly press F2 to enter the HP Diagnostics menu.
  • Run a touchscreen test under Component Tests.

Manually Download and Install Drivers

Download specific drivers for your device:

  • Touchscreen Drivers: Go to your model's page on HP's official site and search for "Touchscreen Firmware" or "HID Drivers."
  • Chipset Drivers: Update the chipset drivers, as they handle many input functions.

Roll Back Updates

If the issue started after an update:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update History.
  • Select Uninstall Updates and roll back any recent updates.
  • Disable automatic updates temporarily and see if this resolves the issue.

Test with Linux Live USB

To rule out hardware issues:

  • Boot your laptop using a Linux Live USB (e.g., Ubuntu).
  • Check if the touchscreen works in Linux. If it does, the issue is software-related.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
