HP Envy x360

Me again.  I have a two-day-old Envy x360.  Just working out some kinks that I'm not familiar with, and one of them is that the function keys seem to be the opposite of what I'm used to.  I work at home on CAT software, editing software, and I need my function keys to work quickly and not have to hit the "Fn" key first.  Surely there is a way to change this, right?   When I hit my F3 or F4 keys in my CAT software, the backlit keyboard light goes on or off, etc.  This is very troublesome for me when working.  Help.  And thank you.

Also, is there a way to just use one finger to scroll on the touchpad?  And what is the best way to speed the scroll up?  I can't seem to get it like I want it.  Also, same problem with the arrow keys, up and down.  Thanks much!

@Danielssk710, welcome to the forum.

Here is a guide that should help you disable the Fn key.

To set the Touchpad for one-finger scrolling, go into Settings/Devices/Touchpad/Additional settings/ClickPad Settings/Click on Scrolling and you should see a picture of one-finger scrolling.

I wasn't able to find any settings for increasing the speed of the Scrolling or of the Arrow keys.  You can check in the Settings to see if you can find anything on them.

It seems totally rediculous that you need to change this setting in the BIOS, is there a better solution to cobat this continued poor design by HP?

Such as being able to permanetly leave the FN key locked, like the Microsoft Surface, or better yet the function keys are set as function keys by default!

I agree.  But at least it's nothing to it.  I was nervous about it, but it took all of a couple minutes, and now they work as they should!  I've never had a PC that has this function backward.  Backward to me anyway.  If anyone does want this preference, note that where it says to enable or disable that action, mine had to be disabled.  Seems that's backward too.  🙂

FYI, I did finally find out how to increase the speed of scrolling.  I dug a little deeper and found the setting for allowing "coasting."  That's what it was.

Thanks for your help on everything else.

I wish the function keys were the old way too, at the top of the keyboard, clearly printed, F1, etc.

How do you get to F10?  Is there no more Safe Mode?  Why was that changed?
