@Jan274,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

That sounds like a power supply issue to me.  Meaning, your power supply may lack the wattage to power your GPU.

What model EliteDesk do you have, what processor is installed, and what GPU are you trying to make work?

Its a 3rd gen i7, im trying to get an amd rx 550 to work. It needs about 35 Watts. The pc is an elitedesk 8300 SFF

I read about people disabling the pcie slots, is that what could have happened here?

@Jan274,

OK, an HP Compaq EliteDesk SFF is fitted with a 320-watt power supply, and since an RX 550 has a 50-watt TDP and requires a minimum 250-watt power supply (see: AMD Radeon RX 550 Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database), therefore, power should not be a problem.

Have you been able to ascertain if the RX 550 is in working order?  -Meaning, can you check it out on another PC to see if it actually works?

Kind Regards,

@Jan274,

Yes, remove the graphics card and access BIOS to see if all ports -including your PCIe x16 slot, has been enabled.  This means that you'll have to use one of your PC's video output ports to connect to your monitor.

I dont have another pc, but i can check with another gpu. I cant check if its fan spins up tho, as its a passive gpu. I will be buying a VGA cable to use integrated graphics to hopefully enable pcie in bios. As i bought the pc refurbished im scared about the bios being password locked, is there a way to clear password just in case?

HP Recommended

@Jan274,

The HP Community Forum rulebook does not allow me to go over a password clearance procedure.

In my experience, a refurbished PC is usually not password locked.

If perchance it is, contact the Seller.

I have booted on internal graphics and confirmed all pcie slots Are active, after trying to Boot with the gpu it spinned the gpu Fans shortly but shutdown rihgt after. Then i booted again still with the gpu, and it didnt spin and also didnt Show in device Manager. I will try with another gpu and report what happens with that later
