Hello.
My hdmi stopped working at once. I didnt use it for a few months, then i tried to connect a TV to a laptop - nothing, then I tried to connect laptop to another monitor - no connection. In display settings it says "didnt dedect another display". I'm using HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2xxx.
I tried to reinstall amd graphics driver (integrated), reinstall nvidia graphic driver, none of it seems to work. HDMI cable works on another laptop. When I click on sound > playback there is nvidia high definition audio output and it says "not plugged in".

Hi @ajde,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It looks like your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2xxx is not detecting external displays via HDMI. Since you’ve already tried reinstalling the AMD and NVIDIA graphics drivers, let’s go through more troubleshooting steps:
Check Basic HDMI Connection Issues
- Ensure the HDMI cable is firmly connected to both the laptop and the external display.
- Try a different HDMI cable, even though your current one works on another laptop.
- Use another HDMI port on the monitor/TV, if available.
Manually Detect the Display
- Right-click on your desktop and select Display settings.
- Scroll down and click Detect under "Multiple displays."
- If it still doesn’t detect, try pressing Windows + P and selecting Duplicate or Extend.
Check NVIDIA Control Panel
- Right-click on your desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Under Display > Set up multiple displays, check if the external display is listed.
- If not, click Rigorous Display Detection at the bottom.
Update or Roll Back Graphics Drivers
Since you’ve already reinstalled drivers, try rolling back to an older version:
- Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Expand Display Adapters and right-click NVIDIA GPU > Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver (if available).
- Do the same for the AMD integrated graphics driver.
- Restart your laptop and test again.

Alternatively, install the latest drivers directly from:
- AMD (for integrated graphics): AMD Drivers
- NVIDIA (for dedicated GPU): NVIDIA Drivers
Check HDMI Output in Sound Settings
Since your NVIDIA High Definition Audio says "Not Plugged In", try this:
- Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
- Go to the Playback tab and look for NVIDIA HDMI Output.
- If it’s Disabled, right-click and select Enable.
Power Cycle & BIOS Reset
- Power off your laptop and unplug it.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect everything and boot up.
- If still not working, enter the BIOS (press F10 during startup) and check if external display options are disabled.

Hello. Thank you for your tips. I tried another HDMI cable but the problem remains. Option to roll drivers back is unavailable. Other solutions also dont work. I dont have display options in my BIOS. Also this is how my nvidia control panel looks like:
No display options.

Hi @ajde,
Thank you for the response
Since basic troubleshooting didn’t resolve the HDMI not working issue, here are advanced steps to diagnose and fix the problem:
Check Windows Display & GPU Settings
- Press Win + P and try Duplicate or Extend mode.
- Open Device Manager → Display Adapters
- Right-click AMD & NVIDIA GPU → Uninstall device → Restart PC (Windows reinstalls the drivers).
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Set up multiple displays and check if an external display appears.
Force Windows to Detect HDMI Monitor
- Open Device Manager → Monitors
- Click Action → Scan for hardware changes
- Go to Settings → Display
- Scroll to Multiple Displays → Click Detect
Enable HDMI via Registry (if missing)
- Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
- Right-click → New → DWORD (32-bit) Value
- Name it EnableHDMI
- Set Value to 1
- Restart your laptop.
Force HDMI via Safe Mode
- Boot into Safe Mode (Shift + Restart → Advanced Options → Safe Mode with Networking).
- Uninstall ALL display drivers via Device Manager.
- Restart and reinstall AMD & NVIDIA drivers (from HP’s support site).
- Test HDMI before reinstalling any extra software.
Update Firmware & Chipset Drivers
- Update your BIOS & chipset drivers from HP’s support site.
- Go to HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) (Esc on startup → F2)
- Run Component Tests → Video/Graphics to check for failures.
Let me know what works! 😊
