HP Spectre
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had this computer for almost 18 months and the external monitor has been working fine.  However, as of this morning, it is not even detecting the HDMI port.  I have updated the drivers, restarted the computer.  The cable and external monitor are working as I checked it with a DELL and another HP computer.

If I go to the display settings, it is not detecting the second display.

Hope you can suggest a solution.....thanks!

@SSMT,

Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community.  I reviewed the post regarding HDMI issues with the computer. Fabulous description and excellent troubleshooting were done by you. Great job! Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

For me to assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.

  • Did you connect this computer to another external TV or screen to it and check if it works?
  • Did you try multiple HDMI cables?
  • Please provide the complete model# of the computer to assist you better.

For now please try these steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand display adapters>then select the display drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
  • Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios chipset and graphics drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2syreDe  after following the on-screen instructions and selecting the correct Operating system.
  • If it still does not fix the issue, please perform the relevant steps for HDMI related issues from this link: http://hp.care/2rKIvXg regarding video issues. If there is no hardware issue with the computer, this should do the trick for you.

Hi,

If the Spectre is using Intel HD graphics, then try DOWNGRADING the Intel drivers from the HP site. Choose a version released at least 6 months prior to your issue.

Sounds strage, but there's been quite a few bizzare issues lately on HP's with Intel graphics that have been updated via Windows 10 Update. It's only Intel, AMD is not affected. Try this before going down the hardware path.

The Intel HD graphics also incorporates the Intel HDMI audio & graphics. I have seen it where laptop display is OK, but not HDMI & roll back the driver has worked.

Hope this helps.
