HP ENVY 750-124
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently had to change my office configuration and have multiple monitors, which have always worked fine. I was using both hdmi ports for monitors. Everything worked fine for about an hour, and then I lost one of the monitors. I have switched out cables, but it appears that one hdmi port is no longer recognizing any monitor that I plug into. The other port is working fine. Please help!

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums.

I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY Desktop - 750-124 PC and one of the HDMI ports have stopped working. The HDMI port is working fine. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

Did any software changes or updates happen on the laptop before this issue started?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

If you connected the monitor or TV after the graphics software was opened, close the software and open it again. Most software does not recognize a display added or attached after the software is opened.

  • Click here to download and install the HP Support Assistant tool. This tool will scan your PC and install the required updates and drivers.
  1. In Windows, search for and open HP Support Assistant.

  2. On the My devices tab, select your computer from the device list, then click Updates.

  3. If no updates are listed, click Check for updates and messages.

  6. When HP Support Assistant is finished, close it and continue to the next step to update your Windows drivers.

Use Windows Update to update your Windows device drivers:

Use the following steps to update your Windows device drivers.

  1. Restart your computer to ensure any updates previously downloaded are correctly installed.

  2. In Windows, search for and open Windows Update.

    The Windows Update menu opens.

  3. Click one of the following options, if present, on the Windows Update window:

    • If updates are available to download, click Install now.

      Figure : Click Install now

    • If no updates are currently listed, click Check for updates, then click Install now if Windows detects available updates.

  4. Restart your computer to finish installing the updates.

If the issue still persists then let us uninstall and reinstall the video card drivers. The following steps will help:

  • Open the device manager.
  • Expand "display adapters".
  • Right click on the display drivers listed there and select uninstall.
  • Close the device manager and restart the PC.
  • After the PC restarts download and install the drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2pu7zBO

Finally, you may run a hardware test on the video card if the HDMI port continues to not work. The following steps will help in running the test:

  • Shutdown the PC.

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  • On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  • The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

  • Video Tests - This test includes three tests of the video hardware on your computer.

To run the test, click Video, select one of the following tests, and then click Run Once.

  1. Video Memory Fast Check - 3 minute video memory test
  2. Video Memory Check - 20 minute memory test
  3. Palette Check - 1 minute test of the three video color components. Follow the on-screen instructions during the test.

If the test fails then please contact our HP phone support team to check the available service options for your PC. HP phone support team can be reached via this link: http://hp.care/2uJxnug

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Let me know how it goes. I'll be glad to assist you.

Good luck! 🙂
