Hello,

I am having issues with the webcam on my new HP 534pm monitor. While the microphone works correctly, the camera does not produce any image.

Setup details:

  • OS: Windows 11 (version 25H2) – tested on two different PCs.

  • Connection: Connected via USB-C (I also tried a DisplayPort + USB A-B combination, but it didn't help).

Symptoms and troubleshooting steps taken:

  • Physical detection: When I push the pop-up camera in or pull it out, the monitor correctly recognizes the action and displays the OSD message: "Webcam enabled Microphone enabled / Webcam disabled Microphone disabled".

  • OSD Settings: "Webcam" is set to "On" in the monitor’s OSD menu.

  • HP Display Center: In the "Camera" tab, the preview is missing. Instead, it shows the message: "Camera preview not available. Camera shutter is closed. Please check your camera."

  • Apps: Neither the Windows "Camera" app nor "MS Teams" receive any video input.

  • Drivers: Initially, I had the SunplusIT driver (v5.0.26.5) installed. Device Manager showed it as "PC Camera" with the status "This device is working properly."

  • Firmware Update: I was initially unable to update the firmware using the HP Webcam software; it returned the error: "Unable to communicate with device. Firmware cannot be installed."

  • Rollback: After rolling back the driver to the generic "Microsoft 10.0.26100.7309," the HP firmware update tool started communicating. It now reports the firmware is "Up to date" (version 1.0.14.53250).

Despite these steps, the camera still does not work, and the "shutter is closed" error persists in the HP software.

Hi @Miraba,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with the webcam on your HP 534pm monitor, here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Check Device Manager:

  • Go to Device Manager on your Windows 11 PC.
  • Check under Cameras or Imaging devices to ensure the webcam is recognized. If it's not listed, or if there's a yellow triangle indicating a problem, this could point to a driver issue.

Driver Update:

  • Right-click on the webcam in Device Manager and select Update driver.
  • You can choose to search automatically for updated driver software or browse your computer for driver software if you have the latest driver downloaded.

System Permissions:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
  • Ensure that camera access is turned on and that apps are allowed to access the camera.

BIOS and Firmware:

  • Make sure the firmware for your HP monitor and the BIOS of your computer are updated to the latest versions. This can often resolve incompatibility issues.

  • Visit Official HP® Support and enter your monitor model to find any available firmware updates.

Testing with Different Software:

  • Try using the webcam with different applications (such as Zoom, Skype, or the Camera app in Windows) to see if the issue persists across various software.

Physical Connection:

  • Double-check the USB connections. Make sure that the USB-C or USB A-B connections are secure. Sometimes switching ports can resolve the problem.

Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Type Troubleshoot in the Windows search bar.
  • Open Troubleshoot settings, select Hardware and Devices (or search for it), and run the troubleshooter.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you for your advice. I have tried all the suggested steps, but unfortunately, none have resolved the issue. I have also tested the monitor with a Windows 10 PC, and the camera does not work there either. Consequently, the camera is non-functional across three different computers. I believe this is a hardware defect, where the monitor incorrectly detects the camera as being retracted even when it is physically extended.

I am attaching screenshots demonstrating that the camera is visible in the Windows Device Manager when the shutter is extended. When the shutter is retracted, the camera disappears from the Device Manager as expected. Furthermore, the OSD menu responds correctly to the shutter's position. However, regardless of the physical state of the shutter, the 'HP Display Center' application consistently reports: 'Camera preview not available. Camera shutter is closed. Please check your camera.' This discrepancy confirms that the software or internal hardware is failing to acknowledge the open state of the camera

Hi @Miraba,

Thank you for your response.

I understand that you're facing an issue with a non-functional camera on your monitor across multiple devices. It seems that the problem could be hardware-related, particularly if the camera is detected by the Device Manager but still doesn’t function correctly.

Here are a few steps you can try to confirm and possibly resolve the hardware issue:

Check Camera Shutter and Connection: Ensure that the camera shutter is fully extended and check the physical connections and cables for any issues or damage.

Update Device Drivers: Access the Windows Device Manager, right-click on the camera device, and select "Update Driver". You can also manually download the latest drivers for your monitor from the HP Support website.

Run Hardware Troubleshooter: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, and run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to let Windows attempt to find and fix the issue.

Restart the Computer: Sometimes, a system restart can resolve minor glitches related to hardware recognition.

Monitor Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your monitor from the HP website. Updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I followed your suggestions, but none of them worked.

I am experiencing a persistent issue with the integrated webcam on my new HP Series 5 Pro 34-inch WQHD Conferencing Monitor (534pm). Despite the hardware OSD reporting "Webcam Enabled" when popped up, the camera fails to provide any video stream.

Hardware Details:

Model: HP 534pm

Hardware ID: USB\VID_0408&PID_XXXX (Note: This is the Quanta revision, not the earlier Sunplus revision).

Firmware: Up to date (ver. 1.0.14.53250) according to the HP Firmware Update Utility.

Symptoms:

The Windows Camera App reports "Could not start camera" or shows a black screen without any error code.

Crucially, no resolutions are listed in the camera settings, indicating that the device is failing to provide UVC descriptors.

The system frequently attempts to force-install the SunplusIT driver package containing the problematic SPITDevMftEx64.dll, even though the hardware is identified as Quanta (VID_0408).

Troubleshooting steps already taken (and failed):

Driver Scrubbing: Used DriverStore Explorer (RAPR) and pnputil to force-delete all remnants of SunplusIT/Sunplus drivers (SPITDevMftEx64.dll).

Generic Driver Force: Manually switched the driver to the generic Microsoft "USB Video Device". While the DLL-related errors disappeared, the video stream remains dead/black.

MFT Bypass: Modified the registry (EnableFrameServerMode = 0) to bypass the Windows Media Foundation Frame Server. No change.

Privacy Settings: Verified that "Presence Sensing" and "Auto-Lock" in OSD/HP Display Center are not interfering. The OSD correctly triggers the "Webcam Enabled" notification when the pop-up module is raised.

Power/Bandwidth: Tested with reduced monitor resolution/refresh rate and swapped between USB-C and USB-B (upstream) cables to ensure it's not a USB bandwidth limitation.

Hard Reset: Performed a full power cycle (unplugging from AC and holding the power button for 15s) to reset the internal USB hub.

Conclusion: Since the OSD correctly identifies the physical state of the pop-up mechanism, but the OS (even with a clean generic UVC driver) cannot retrieve device descriptors or a video stream, I suspect a faulty internal flex cable or a firmware-level conflict within the Quanta-based internal USB 3.0 hub of this specific revision.

Has anyone else encountered this VID_0408 specific issue? Is there a standalone Quanta firmware fix available that isn't included in the main monitor firmware package?
