HP eliteDisplay E243M
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi,

I've been using my HP monitor E243M connected to my Macbook Pro 15in 2017 (Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB graphics) as a second monitor for a year now, but today it stopped working.

When I now turn on the monitor, I get purple and yellow horizontal lines on the screen which moved down the screen. I connect the montior to my macbook pro using a HDMI cable and USB-C adapter.

I've tried a different HDMI cable, 2 different USB-C adapters and also tried connecting my HP laptop to the monitor - all didn't work.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Thanks

@wilsonma

The screen never comes on with a normal display?

With swapping out different cables and even different computers, the only common hardware in the set is the monitor -- and it looks like it has failed.

Does your MacBook Pro have any features for running diagnostics that can be used to check the monitor?

hi @WaWood,

Last week it was working normally. But now, even without the HDMI connected, it has the purple and and yellow lines showing (and also makes a ticking noise).

I'm not aware of any diagnostics to check the monitor - are there any you could recommend?

thanks for your help

@wilsonma

Not aware of any that HP has.

A quick Google search brings up a half-dozen monitor diagnostics apps -- but all of these probably run in Windows and I don't know if any of them are free.
