Hi @Stephen_seagull,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The HP E27m G4 includes integrated conferencing features, so a driver error related to audio can be caused by the monitor's USB connection, audio device detection, or a driver issue on the host PC.

A few details will help narrow this down:

  • What operating system are you using (Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS, etc.)?
  • Is the monitor connected through USB-C, DisplayPort, or HDMI?
  • Do the webcam and microphone work correctly, or are they affected as well?
  • What is the exact driver error shown in Device Manager?
  • Under Sound settings, does the HP E27m G4 appear as a playback device?

A few checks worth performing:

  1. Disconnect the monitor and restart the computer.
  2. Reconnect the monitor using the original USB-C cable (or ensure the USB upstream cable is connected if using HDMI/DisplayPort).
  3. Open Device Manager and check for any devices with a warning symbol under Audio inputs and outputs, Sound, video and game controllers, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. In Windows Sound Settings, verify that the HP E27m G4 is selected as the default output device.
  5. Test the monitor on another computer, if available, to determine whether the issue follows the monitor or stays with the PC.

Since you already installed the latest available driver from HP, it would also be helpful to know:

  • Did the audio work previously and then stop?
  • Did the issue begin after a Windows update, driver update, or monitor firmware update?
  • Are the monitor speakers missing completely, or are they detected but producing no sound?

If the issue persists, run the built-in hardware diagnostics on the PC:

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Turn it on and repeatedly tap Esc.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  4. Run the Audio Test and note any errors.

Share the operating system, connection type, and the exact driver error message, and we can determine whether this is a monitor audio device detection issue, a USB communication problem, or a driver conflict.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
