HP ELITEDESK CANNOT CONNECT TO SECOND MONITOR, NEW CABLE AND ADAPTOR

Hello,

Understood. Before we start replacing parts, I want to narrow this down properly. A few details will help confirm whether we’re dealing with a port, adapter, or configuration issue.

Please confirm the following first:

  1. Which EliteDesk model are you using (for example, EliteDesk 800 G3 Mini, 800 G4 SFF, etc.)?

  2. What are the two video connections you’re using (e.g., DisplayPort to HDMI, DisplayPort to DisplayPort, VGA, etc.)?

  3. Does the second monitor show “No signal”, or does Windows not detect it at all under Display Settings → Multiple displays?

  4. Is this a discrete GPU configuration, or are you using only the integrated graphics (Intel HD/UHD)?

Each variant of EliteDesk handles dual monitors differently depending on graphics configuration and BIOS settings.

General Checks (common to all EliteDesk G-series)

  1. Test both ports individually.
Disconnect one display and connect the second monitor to the primary port.

    • If both displays work independently, the issue is in multi-display configuration or driver settings.

    • If the second port never outputs, it’s either disabled in BIOS or adapter-incompatible.

  2. BIOS Settings:

    • Boot into BIOS (F10 at startup).

    • Go to Advanced → Device Options → Multi-Display (exact path varies slightly by generation).

    • Ensure Multi-Display Support is Enabled.

    • If using a discrete GPU, enable Integrated Video as well — otherwise, onboard ports are disabled when a GPU is present.

  3. Display Drivers:

    • Install or reinstall the latest Intel Graphics driver directly from HP’s support page for your model (not Windows Update).

    • After installing, reboot and check Display Settings → Detect displays.

  4. Adapter type:

    • Passive DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapters only work if the DisplayPort supports DP++ (Dual Mode) output.

    • For Mini or regular DisplayPort ports on EliteDesk, if the port is not labeled “DP++”, use an active adapter instead.

    • This is the most common cause of “new cable and adapter but no signal” issues.
