HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15z-ee000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi! My device is an HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15z-ee000 CTO which has 400 nits of brightness running on Windows 10. This is a persistent problem I have encountered with my unit for the past year that I have owned it. The last time the problem happened, the good folks at the HP Service Center could not figure out the problem so my LCD was replaced entirely. However, when I asked what I can do to prevent it from happening again, they could not give an answer, and so the problem is back only this time, my device is out of warranty and I cannot get my screen replaced anymore.

For some reason, the touch capabilities on my laptop had stopped working. As before, I checked Device Manager and found that the I2C Device has a problem. I tried updating the drivers, but it said my drivers are up to date.  I also tried updating it through Windows Update, but there is no update available for it. I tried using Windows Hardware and Device Troubleshooter and while it did recognize that there is a problem with the I2C HID Device,  it could not fix the problem. I have also tried diagnosing it in BIOS, but it is as if my laptop never had touch capabilities at all because the BIOS on my laptop does not recognize it as a touch capable device. Going back to the Device Manager, I found that I2C HID Compliant Touch Device is missing from laptop, same with the I2C HID Compliant Pen. Looking at forums on the internet, it was suggested that I uninstall the problematic I2C HID Compliant Device and restart my computer so that the computer would reinstall it. It did not happen. Instead, the I2C HID Compliant Device was reinstalled, but not the I2C HID Compliant Touch Device and Pen. For a few days, I dealt with it hoping for a solution that does not involve having to replace my screen again and reformatting my computer. However, now even tablet mode does not work. My laptop is perpetually on tablet mode even though tablet mode is turned off and the touch capability does not function anymore.

Again, this is the second time this has happened to me in the span of a year. I have been careful with my laptop and since the screen was replaced before, I had taken extra steps to be careful with it but the problem as I feared persisted and now I could not dare to have my screen replaced because it is out of warranty. I am hoping somebody here might have a solution to this persistent problem. I have searched high and low over the Internet, and nobody has given a solution.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I understand that your HP notebook is not working correctly. I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.

The last thing I can suggest try and restore the OS back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.  The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
