HP Elite 8300 SFF doesn't work DisplayPort to VGA

Hello,

I bought a HP Elite 8300 SFF with Intel HD Graphics 2500. I want to use 2 monitors. This machine has VGA and DisplayPort outputs and I have 2 monitors with VGA inputs. First monitor VGA to VGA works OK. But the second monitor (DisplayPort to VGA) doesn't work. I use this cable https://gembird.com/item.aspx?id=9844 as a reduction. Could be the problem with the cable that it isn't an active adapter? Could solve this problem an active adapter, for examle http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=3955073?

btw. I tried the same gembird DP to VGA cable with the same monitor with my notebook, which has Intel HD Graphics 3000 and it is working, so I'm little confused 😕

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to buy an inexpensive low profile graphics card specifically built to run dual monitors.

This is the one that was the optional graphics card for the 8200 and 8300 elite SFF and CMT PC's.

Thanks for answer. It could be solution. Is somewhere some list of compatible graphics card which I could use for this case?

You're very welcome.

Yes there is, but that one would probably be the best solution for you, or the NVIDIA NVS 300 (512 MB) PCIe x16.

And the last question: Is possible on this machine to have enabled external and integrated graphic card together? I found that this is possible on some HP through enabling in the BIOS. I would like to use  one monitor through the external GPU and the second through the integrated GPU.

Hi:

That model does have such a setting but I have never tried it out on my 8200 Elite CMT, which also has the setting.

See chapter 2, page 29.

Integrated Video (enable/disable). Use this option to disable the integrated video controller
when another video controller is present in the system. Default is enabled.

The setting implies that you disable the onboard graphics when a video card is added, but that happens automatically.

So you would have to see if you added a video card, if you could re-enable the onboard graphics in that BIOS setting.
