HP Elitedesk G5 800 desktop does not recognize monitor using dp cable

I am setting up a brand new HP Elitedesk G5 800 desktop.  I connected a verified operational Acer monitor using a verified operational DP cable.  When I turned the monitor on I got a "cable not connected" error message.  By the way, in setting up the monitor I stepped it through the VGA, HMDI, DP options and selected DP.  I contacted HP chat support this morning and was advised on steps to open the computer and check/test all connections.  This level of advice is above my skill level.  Are there any interim steps I can take before returning the machine to the supplier tomorrow?

I´m having the same problem... desktop and first monitor (DELL) areworking fine (DP > HDMI) but HP to HP (DP to DP) are not working at all. 


The second monitor is not detected in the Windows settings and both cables work with the first monitor.
