Hi All,

I want to use this monitor (HP Pavilion 22cwa 21.5-inch IPS LED Backlit Monitor) as  2nd monitor but set it vertically for emails. Please tell me if it is possible and if so, direct me to detailed instructions, esp. set-up in the Mac (using MacOs Sonoma)  and if I need to get a new monitor stand.

Thank you,

Marcos

Hi @Mc244

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Yes, you can use the HP Pavilion 22cwa 21.5-inch IPS LED Backlit Monitor as a second monitor set up vertically for emails. To do this, you will need to physically rotate the monitor and adjust the settings on your Mac to display content in a vertical (portrait) orientation. Here's how to do it:

Physical Setup

Check the Stand: The default stand of the HP Pavilion 22cwa may not support vertical rotation. You might need a VESA-compatible stand or mount that allows vertical orientation. Ensure your monitor is VESA-compatible (it should have mounting holes on the back).

Purchase a Stand: If the current stand does not support vertical orientation, consider purchasing a VESA-compatible monitor stand or arm. Look for stands that specifically mention support for portrait orientation.

Software Setup on Mac (macOS Sonoma)

Connect the Monitor: Connect your HP Pavilion 22cwa monitor to your Mac using the appropriate cable (HDMI to HDMI, or with an adapter if necessary).

Open System Settings:

  • Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of the screen.
  • Select “System Settings.”

Adjust Display Settings:

  • In the System Settings window, click on “Displays.”
  • You should see both your primary and secondary (HP Pavilion 22cwa) monitors listed.
  • Select the HP Pavilion 22cwa monitor.

Rotate the Display:

  • Click the "Rotation" drop-down menu (you might need to press and hold the Option key to see this option).
  • Choose "90°" or "270°" depending on the direction you have rotated your monitor.
  • The display on the HP Pavilion 22cwa should now be in portrait mode.

Steps for Specific Rotation

Confirm the Rotation: Once you select the rotation angle, your screen will prompt you to confirm. If the display looks correct, click “Confirm.” If not, the display will revert back to the previous setting.

Arrange Displays: In the “Displays” section of System Settings, you can also arrange the position of the secondary monitor relative to your primary monitor. Drag the monitor icons to align them as per your physical setup.

If you need a new stand, look for options like:

  • VIVO Single Monitor Desk Mount: Adjustable arm that supports vertical orientation.
  • AmazonBasics Premium Single Monitor Stand: Offers tilt, swivel, and vertical adjustment.

Once you have the physical stand and have adjusted the settings on your Mac, your HP Pavilion 22cwa monitor should be set up vertically for optimal use as a second monitor for emails.

If you need specific recommendations for stands or run into any issues during setup, I recommend you contact phone support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
