As my username suggests, I really need some help. I have a brand new HP Pavilion TP01-2234 with only one HDMI port in the back. I've had to resort to using the VGA connection for a 2nd monitor, but when the two are side-by-side the quality difference is very noticeable. Do I have ANY options to hooking up a 2nd HDMI monitor for extended display? I have tried two different USB-C products, and both left me with a black screen and no signs of life. First I tried an adapter (j5 create, hdmi to USB-C). No luck despite deleting drivers and reinstalling them. Then I ordered a USB-C docking station (Mokin USB-C HUB, 8-in-1). Still no luck. Tried every combination of rebooting and driver installation that was recommended out there. I'm pretty much out of options at the moment, so I'm hoping someone here can help. I'd be SUPER grateful for it!

Its specs

            https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c07929809

Its  SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port does NOT support Alt mode therefore you can't connect it to a monitor. It has following ports at its back

  • 1) RJ-45 Ethernet port
  • (1) HDMI 1.4b/HDCP 2.2 port
  • (1) VGA port
  • (3) Audio ports (Line-in/Line-out/Microphone)
  • (4) USB 2.0 Type-A ports
  • (1) Power input port

VGA port is the way to go without spending more money for a DisplayLink Certified USB-HDMI adapter. Are your 2 monitors same brand and model ? You can adjust them to match (not 100% but should be very close).

Regards.

@Banhien

I appreciate your quick response. I was starting to assume as much after neither USB-C option worked. So, you mentioned a USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter - I see some with good reviews for a very reasonable price. Are you fairly certain this will work for me? I'm just not happy with the VGA quality, even though you're right about being able to get them fairly close if adjusted properly. I'd at least like to try it if you think it would work.

Here's the one I'm considering:

The link says DisplayLink compatible, that is a good sight
