HP Slim Desktop - S01-aF1005t
Microsoft Windows 11

Here's the issue.  Just started.  Of course warranty ran out few days ago.  The screen keeps going dark so I swapped out the monitor because I thought it was that but it is still happening.  It appears that the pc is going into sleep or standby mode every few seconds.    Desktop only 1 year and 2 weeks old.  Customer support won't help unless they charge for additional warranty.

I have reset power options, reset some registry options, ran HP diagnostics, etc.

I am running Windows 11 Home edition and there was an update right before this started. I recovered back to the day of the update but I can’t undo the update. Option is not available.  I have also checked all drivers.

Any ideas would be appreciated

hi

can you check if it is on standby simply..
If the computer goes to sleep, it must turn on again with the action of the keyboard, or mouse..
also check and disable any sleep options
if the screen turns off completely, you have another problem

Hi,

The monitor eventually goes back on and the screen is exactly where it was when it went off so I assume it is on standby?  That is how it is acting but when moving mouse or clicking keyboard it doesn’t wake up right away. It seems to  wake up at its own will. Lol. Thanks for any help, it is so frustrating. It’s hard to perform any tasks when screen constantly going dark.

Have you checked / tested what I told you?
the fact that the screen turns on does not necessarily mean that it is standby mode.
You may have a cut in the graphics card, no more display, and when it comes back, everything is normal, since the computer is not off, like in standby mode!
if the computer is on standby, or the screen, it must turn on fairly quickly on demand!
Disable all standby options, it continues, may be probable while the computer is in standby!

Hi again,

The link you sent shows so many different options so it will take me time to check all the settings since screen keeps shutting off. I hear a click before it goes off….if that helps. I see hibernate not standby in the link. Is that what I must concentrate on? Hibernate?

Selecting a Windows power plan

Hi, Yes I had changed the power settings to Never and that didn't work.

I have just changed sleep: never, hibernate: never, turn off display: never, allow wake: enable.

The problem is still persisting.  Now this is interesting......

I find that when I hear the click and the screen goes black, if I place my finger lightly on the "power button" on the pc box, the screen reappears!  Could there be something wrong with the power switch (hardware)?  Is this a known defect on this model?  This box is only one year old.  Thank you 🙂

quite curious..
do you press, or just touch without actually pressing?
Does your button have a led?
if you are in sleep mode in general it will flash, is this the case?
I ask you this, because if a computer is in standby, it can be turned on again with a press of the power button..
only, standby must not be random, it must be active at the request of the user under certain conditions
So I have a doubt, hardware problem or standby..
I wanted to ask you to do a test without a graphics card, but this computer, does not have a graphics card..

Hi.
I am not pressing the power button but just lightly rubbing finger over it and it comes back on.
Yes, button has led light (blue) and it does NOT flash when screen goes black but does stays lit.

I don't think it's a touch button..
ok, but if you put it on standby, does it flash?
under windows, if you choose under on off , sleep rather than shut down?

it may be necessary to open the computer, and check if everything is correctly connected...
I would advise you to find a professional..
