I removed HP Support Assistant through my list of apps in Settings (not through Control Panel, which probably explains my problem!), but I cannot find a way to remove that irritating question mark on the taskbar. I don't like having something on my PC that I can't control! How do I get rid of this?

Do clean boot it will disable 3rd party apps from automatically starting. Do this:

1. Open the Start menu and type msconfig, then press Enter.
2. In System Configuration, go to the Services tab.
3. Check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
4. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
5. In Task Manager, disable each enabled startup item.
6. Close Task Manager, click OK in System Configuration, and restart your PC.

If you want any app to run automatically onstartup then from msconfig, tich that app and enable it from task manager.
