I am having trouble getting the full 4K resolution out of my HP V28 4K monitor. The maximum resolution I can get is 2560 x 1600. There are no higher resolution options when I go to the display settings through the Windows settings app. The HDMI cable I am using supports 4K. I have it connected to a laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 7730U processor with integrated AMD Radeon graphics. I have tried setting the 4K resolution as a custom resolution through the AMD software on my laptop, but it keeps saying the monitor is incompatible with the resolution even though it's not. I am not sure what else to try. My graphics are compatible with 4K as far as I know.

Hi @Noyj,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like the issue you're facing with the HP V28 4K monitor not displaying the full 4K resolution could be due to a few different factors. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve this.
Check HDMI Version:
- Ensure that your laptop’s HDMI port and the HDMI cable you're using support HDMI 2.0 or higher. HDMI 1.4 can support 4K, but only at 30Hz, and many systems limit the resolution to lower settings with older HDMI versions.
- If your laptop has a DisplayPort or USB-C (with DisplayPort Alt Mode), try using those instead, as they can support 4K at higher refresh rates.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Ensure your AMD Radeon drivers are fully updated. You can download the latest drivers from the AMD support website.
- After updating, reboot your laptop and check if the 4K resolution becomes available in the display settings.
Configure AMD Radeon Software:
- Open AMD Radeon Software:
- Go to the Display section.
- Check if the monitor is recognized as a 4K display (3840x2160 resolution) and set the resolution manually if available.
- You might need to enable GPU scaling and disable virtual super resolution under the display settings in the Radeon software.
Check Windows Display Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Display and under Scale and Layout, select the highest resolution available.
- Ensure that Multiple displays is set to "Extend" or "Duplicate," not "Show only on" (in case you are using multiple displays).
Check Monitor Settings:
- Use the monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) to check the input settings. Make sure it's set to accept HDMI 2.0 and not a lower version.
- If possible, try connecting the monitor to a different device that supports 4K to verify the monitor’s functionality.
Custom Resolution in AMD Software:
- If the custom resolution tool in AMD Radeon Software still says the monitor is incompatible, try lowering the refresh rate from 60Hz to 30Hz when setting the custom resolution. Some systems have trouble with 4K at 60Hz over certain cables or ports.
Test with Another Device or Cable:
- Try using another 4K-capable device (like a different laptop or PC) to ensure that the monitor and HDMI cable are not the limiting factors.
- If possible, test with another high-quality HDMI 2.0/2.1 cable to rule out any cable issues.
Check Laptop's Output Capabilities:
- Verify whether your laptop’s HDMI or display output supports 4K resolution. Some integrated graphics solutions may support 4K, but only at lower refresh rates or may require specific drivers to enable it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your response. My problem was that my laptop's HDMI port is an HDMI 1.4b port, so it doesn't support 4K at 60 Hz. I was able to get it to display 4K at 30 Hz after setting a custom resolution using AMD's custom resolution. I tried using a DisplayPort cable with a DP to USB adapter, which uses DisplayLink, and while I was able to get 4K at 60 Hz that way, the result when I do anything graphics intensive is laggy performance. Until I get another device that is better suited for use with a 4K monitor, I am deciding to be satisfied with the 4K at 30 Hz for the few times I will need to use it. Again, thanks for your help!
