Hi @559Cole,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your all-in-one desktop computer shows "HDMI inactive" and won't turn on, it indicates that the system is not booting properly and is possibly stuck on an HDMI input screen. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and possibly resolve this issue:

Check Power Supply:

  • Ensure that your computer is plugged into a working power outlet.
  • Check the power cord and any power adapters for damage.
  • Try a different power outlet to rule out issues with the outlet itself.

Restart the Computer:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the computer.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and try turning the computer on again.

Reset the Computer:

  • Look for a reset button on the back or side of the all-in-one. If available, use a paperclip to press it.
  • If there's no reset button, you might need to perform a power cycle: unplug the computer, hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds, then plug it back in and try turning it on.

Disconnect External Devices:

  • Disconnect all peripherals (mouse, keyboard, USB drives, external hard drives, etc.).
  • Try turning on the computer with only the power cord connected.

Check the HDMI Input/Output:

  • Make sure no HDMI cables are connected to the HDMI input or output ports.
  • If an HDMI cable is connected, remove it and see if the computer will boot normally.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • If the computer starts but shows an error screen, try booting into Safe Mode. This can often bypass issues caused by drivers or software.
  • To boot into Safe Mode, restart the computer and repeatedly press the F8 or Shift+F8 key during startup (the exact key can vary by manufacturer).

Reset BIOS/UEFI:

  • Sometimes resetting the BIOS/UEFI settings to default can help.
  • Access the BIOS/UEFI by pressing the designated key (often F2, Del, or Esc) immediately after turning on the computer.
  • Look for an option to reset to default settings and save changes.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • If you're comfortable, open the computer case (if possible) and check for any loose connections.
  • Ensure all components (RAM, hard drive, etc.) are securely connected.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
