How to change dedicated video memory

HP Recommended
Pavilion Desktop 590-A0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all,

I purchased an HP Pavilion Desktop 590-a0xxx last year, with 8 GB RAM and dedicated Radeon R5 embedded video card with 512 MB shared memory. It always did its job also with videogames, with the only exception of GTA V, which doesn't run well as it requires at least 1 GB of video memory. In the past I used to change the dedicated video memory setting in the bios advanced configuration at the startup, but this seems not to be possible with this computer. The bios has very few options for the user and doesn't let me change this feature. In addition to this, the motherboard doesn't have a PCI socket to eventually install a graphic card, so I really don't know what to do. The computer is 1 year old while the game is 5 y/o, so it's pretty strange it does run on this machine.

Can you please help me?

@Blueyes-86 Actually, it doesn't matter how old the game is, if the game's requirements aren't met or barely met, it would not work with your computer, besides the desktop you have is designed for everyday computing not for gaming, like our Omen series of desktops and laptops are, that said, here's all you need to know about increasing the video memory:

  • Go to the Start Menu and click on Settings.
  • Type performance.
  • Choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.
  • In the new window, go to the Advanced tab and under the Virtual memory section, click on Change.
  • At the bottom of the new window, check what the Recommended value is and how it compares to Currently allocated.
  • If the current setting is significantly less than the recommended, uncheck the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives box at the top of the same windows and then click on Custom size.
  • Enter the Recommended value in the Initial Size box, and a larger figure in the Maximum size box.
  • Click OK to save the new settings.

Hello Riddle, thank you for your kind response.

I tried to modify this value and things seems to be slightly better, but I guess it uses the memory on the hard disk, while RAM would be much better and faster. I thought that I could install a video card, but I have to stick to this solution in any case.

Thank you!

@Blueyes-86 Here's a few other things you can do to improve game performance: click here for steps and I hope this helps, as there's nothing else we can do about it, since it isn't a gaming device, I hope you understand!
