I just purchased this computer, and am trying to figure out the best way to be able to utilize two monitors. I only have one HDMI port on my computer. I tried a USB-C to HDMI adapter and the computer would not recognize my 2nd monitor. Figured it's time to ask someone who knows their stuff.

Hi @jonandaj,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To set up dual monitors with your new HP Envy Desktop PC, here are a few options to consider.
Use DisplayPort
Check if your HP Envy Desktop has a DisplayPort or another video output port besides HDMI. If it does, you can use a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter or cable for the second monitor.
Use a Docking Station
A docking station can provide additional video output ports. Look for a docking station compatible with your computer that offers multiple video outputs, such as HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA.
Use a USB Display Adapter
If your computer has available USB ports, you can use a USB to HDMI adapter. These adapters allow you to connect an additional monitor via USB. Ensure the adapter is compatible with your operating system.
Check USB-C Compatibility
If you're using a USB-C to HDMI adapter and it's not working, ensure the USB-C port on your computer supports video output (DisplayPort Alt Mode). Not all USB-C ports support video output.
Graphics Card Upgrade
If your desktop has the capability, you could consider adding a dedicated graphics card with multiple video outputs. This is a more advanced option and may require opening the computer case and installing the card.
Steps for Connecting Monitors:
Connect the First Monitor:
- Use the HDMI port on your HP Envy Desktop to connect the first monitor.
Connect the Second Monitor:
- Depending on the method you choose (DisplayPort, docking station, USB adapter), connect the second monitor to the appropriate port.
Configure Display Settings:
- Once both monitors are connected, right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings."
- In the display settings window, you should see both monitors. Select the display you want to configure and choose the display mode (Extend, Duplicate, etc.).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
